From Flash in my teens to Figma in my thirties - I've been on an amazing design journey, strategizing and creating compelling experiences with teams across the globe.

I enjoy working hands-on in the entire product design process, from strategy to delivery, tackling the wicked problems that customers and users face when working with many connected systems.

When I'm not working, I prefer to spend time with my family enjoying the beach and making memories. With no guarantee of tomorrow, I try to maximize the possibilities of each day.

Design leadership values.

Start with human empathy

In my opinion, the term 'user' focuses too tightly on their experience with the product vs. their ecosystem of influence as a human being. I push my teams to look deeper than digital, and search relentlessly to find meaningful insight about the real world environment which impacts the human behavior in the context of using a digital product or service.

Find the right problem

I've worked with many teams who seemed to be chasing the wrong problems, and therefore wasting significant time and resources (and money) on solutions which yielded little to no outcomes. Using design thinking as a framework, I push my teams to identify the right problem(s) to solve and in the simplest way possible.

Create measurable outcomes

Josh Seiden's Outcomes over Outputs lays out a fantastic framework for ensuring value delivery in your work, product, service, team, and almost anything else. I have adopted this framework to drive my team, and the companies I work for, to align on and execute work activities based on their ability to create measurable outcomes for users, customers, and therefore the business.

Build strong design culture and operations

Creating a strong design culture is critically important for the success of my team. I'm hands on in supporting my team to achieving success across the entire design process, guiding them throughout the process in providing constructive feedback and helping them maintain alignment with the stakeholders and business priorities. From a design operations perspective, I focus on creating efficient/simple processes that can scale across the entire design org and enable us to work collaboratively and to ensure our quality.

Advocate for my team's well-being

In a hybrid work culture, many of us can get in the habit of 'always working'. I pride myself on setting the right example when it comes to establishing boundaries and sticking to them, focused on maintaining a strong work-life balance for my team and I.

Design background

An early start

I started experimenting with digital design in the 6th grade when my 'computer teacher' showed me Macromedia Flash. I was fascinated by the medium and began studying design & technology on my own.

Formal design training

From architecture, graphic design, and computer science in high school, to graphic design and fine arts in college...I was fortunate enough to learn and develop foundational skills from amazing teachers and leaders.

An ongoing pursuit of knowledge and perspective

Besides the daily desk research and finding inspiration, I dedicate each Thursday morning from 6-8am to personal development and I've continued to learn and earn certifications in various sub-disciplines of product design from the likes of IDEO U, NNg, and Interaction Design Foundation.

Design mentoring

Throughout my career, I've fostered strong relationships with designers at all levels and have continued to offer my time and support when they need guidance or are looking for outside perspective.
